Class Trip Day enjoyed by all

Posted on Mar 05, 2008

March 3, 2008 was designated as Class Trip Day at Lauralton Hall, and students in all four classes learned a little bit, thoroughly enjoyed their outings…and just had fun!

Seniors spent a memorable day in New York City. A visit to the Museum of Natural History was highlighted by a scavenger hunt created by math teacher Christine Cook and a spectacular presentation on the formation of our galaxy. After an invigorating walk to Carmine’s on Broadway at 91st Street, the seniors enjoyed a delicious lunch-banquet. A sunny day with temperatures in the 50s made the excursion perfect!

The Junior Class traveled to Boston. After an early morning departure from Lauralton, three buses full of students were ready for the full day ahead of them. When the buses arrived in Boston, trolleys were ready to take the students on full tour of the city. Highlights included a view of the U.S.S. Constitution, following the Freedom Trail down to Faneuil Hall, riding past Boston Common up Beacon Hill and viewing Old North Church. The students saw many other historical landmarks along the tour route and even found some time for shopping at Quincy Market.

Along with seven chaperones, sophomores visited Newport, RI. The students broke into smaller groups to tour the interior of The Breakers, the Vanderbilt’s summer “cottage” during the Gilded Age, giving them a first hand look into the lives of one of America’s wealthiest families. After the tour, the sophomores returned to the waterfront district for lunch and shopping.

The Freshman Class participated in a highly successful trip to Mystic. The students enjoyed a tour of the Mystic Aquarium where they viewed numerous fish, sea lions, seals, beluga whales, penguins and more. After watching the sea lions perform and sitting in on a spectacular 3-D theater presentation, the students headed into Mystic Village for some lunch and shopping in the beautiful weather.

The Class Trip Day concept was adopted for the first time this year and proved to be a huge success! In addition to the learning experience that is a part of any class trip, Class Trip Day provides a bonding experience to enhance class unity and gives teachers and students an opportunity to interact in a non-academic setting. Additionally, having all students and teachers participate in class trips on the same day eliminates concern about missing class and provides an opportunity for everyone to just have fun.
